Car and van crash on M57 as traffic queues for miles

A car and van crash on the M57 has led to traffic queuing for miles.

Police rushed to junction the M57 between junction 6, Kirkby and Switch Island, following reports of a crash at around 6.15pm on Tuesday, January 25.

Once at the scene emergency services found a car and van had crashed, and they partially closed the northbound carriageway heading into the city.

National Highways is reporting "long delays" on the motorway and is advising motorists to allow an extra 35 minutes for journeys.

In a tweet the organisation said: "There are 35 minute delays on the M57 northbound between J6 and J7 following a collision which has resulted in reduced capacity on the carriageway. Traffic Officers are en route to assist emergency services."

Traffic monitoring service, INRIX, says traffic is passing but there are "big delays" in the area.

INRIX says: "Long delays and queuing traffic due to accident and accident, a van and a car involved on M57. Travel time is around 40 minutes.

"Sensors show traffic is passing with big delays."

It's not clear if the North West Ambulance Service are in attendance at the incident.
