Car and lorry involved in crash on busy Stockport road

A major Stockport road was shut over the weekend after a car was believed to have been involved in a collision with a lorry.

Transport for Greater Manchester tweeted at 2:18pm on Saturday (July 31) that King Street West in Stockport had been closed southbound at the junction of Wood Street due to a road traffic collision.

Eye-witnesses told the M.E.N they saw a silver grey vehicle collide with a lorry - although it was not yet clear how the incident occurred.

"Some bus services may be on diversion so please check before you travel."

Video footage taken on Saturday afternoon showed the vehicles in the middle of the road while police helicopters could be seen flying above.

Police officers were also in attendance.

Photos at the scene later showed a car with a smashed front parked up between police vehicles.

Transport for Greater Manchester later tweeted at 3:48pm to state King Street West had since reopened.

The Manchester Evening News has contacted Greater Manchester Police for a comment.
