Captive by AJ Grainger - review

Captive by AJ Grainger

This book isn't one of my favourites and it definitely isn't something I would normally read, but I did enjoy parts of it.

The first half of the book was very good. I really liked the character and the back story. I felt like there was a lot of depth to the character, and that her emotions and actions were really well described throughout the book. I liked that you were discovering more about why Robyn was kidnapped as the book went on and I found it very intriguing.

Unfortunately, during the second half of the book it turned into another one of those books where the main character falls in love with her kidnapper and there are already a lot of books with this theme. The condition is called Stockholm Syndrome and although it is an interesting topic, when you have read a story about it once it is hard to engage with another. That being said I did like that the author hadn't gone over the top like some authors do because it made it seem more real.

I would give this book three stars as I feel the latter part of it really let it down and I would recommend it to teen fans of Sophie McKenzie and Ally Carter. As this was AJ Grainger's debut book, I expect great books from her in the future.
