Captain Tom Moore to release autobiography and children’s book

Captain Tom Moore has stolen the nation's hearts over the past month.

The war veteran - who raised more than £32 million for the NHS by completing 100 laps of his Bedfordshire garden by his 100th birthday on April 30 - has announced he will release two new books: an autobiography and a children’s book.

The autobiography, Tomorrow Will Be A Good Day, is set to be published on September 17 this year by Michael Joseph, an imprint of Penguin Random House in support of his new foundation, the monikered Captain Tom Foundation.

The autobiography will describe what it was like on the battlefields of Burma, how he competitively raced motorbikes and how he travelled to the Himalayas and Mt. Everest in his nineties, simply because he had never been.

Moore says: “I am so looking forward to sharing my autobiography with you which will help launch my new Foundation... I’d better get writing!”

His yet-to-be-named children’s picture book, out October 1 this year and published by Puffin, also an imprint of Penguin, will be about adventure, helping people and never giving up.

The story will tell the tale of the man who walked 100 laps of his garden (sound familiar?) and captured our collective hearts and will be fully illustrated, showing snapshots of Moore’s life.

Moore’s daughter, Hannah Ingram-Moore, says: “As a child I was an avid reader, I often had two or three books on the go at any one time. I have wonderful childhood memories of going to meet authors at Puffin Book Club meetings, proudly wearing my Puffin badge and asking authors to sign copies of their books.”

This announcement comes after Moore was awarded Freedom of the City of London - an honour that dates back to 1237 and is offered to individuals to celebrate a significant achievement.

Moore said via video stream: "I am deeply honoured to be granted the Freedom of the City of London.

"I remain humbled by the love and gratitude that I have received from the British public, and this honour is something that I will truly value for the rest of my life."

Moore’s autobiography retails for £20 and can be pre-ordered here, while his picture book retails for £12.99 and can be pre-ordered here.
