Captain Tom Moore's walk for the NHS has now raised £20 million

Captain Tom Moore's incredible fundraising walk for the NHS has raised more than £20 million.

The 99-year-old veteran from Yorkshire hit the landmark on Friday evening, the day after he completed 100 laps of his 25m garden.

He first set out to raise £1,000 for NHS Charities Together by walking 100 laps of his garden in Bedfordshire before his 100th birthday on April 30.

But the captain has said he's not finished yet, committing to keep walking as long as people keep donating money.

The Just Giving page says: "Tom is going to continue to walk, raise money for NHS Charities Together, and spread some cheer around the world whilst doing so."

Captain Moore's effort has received plaudits from across the world including from the Duke of Cambridge Prince William.

The Duke said in a recorded message to the veteran: “What I love also is that he’s a 99-year-old war vet, he’s been around a long time, knows everything and it’s wonderful that everyone has been inspired by his story and his determination.

“I think he’s a one-man fundraising machine.

“God knows what the final total will be but good on him, I hope he keeps going.”
