Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter: ‘I didn’t steal his charity cash’

Captain Sir Tom Moore’s daughter fought back tears as she defended herself against allegations of swindling the late war hero’s NHS charity cash.

Hannah Ingram-Moore, 51, told ITV’s This Morning: “I am guarding my father’s legacy, we would never hurt it.

"But I would never be able to sit on here and tell you something that’s not true.

"It’s clear, our accounts are there to be seen. But we are not hiding anything.”

Accounts for The Captain Tom Foundation showed only £162,000 was awarded in its first year, while around £240,000 of £400,000 in outgoings were spent on fundraising and administration.

The foundation is being investigated by the Charity Commission after it reimbursed more than £54,000 to companies run by Hannah and husband Colin, including their consultancy firm Maytrix.

Last month it was claimed Hannah initially sought permission to become CEO of the foundation on a salary of £150,000 a year.

The move was reportedly blocked by the Charity Commission.

When asked if there was any truth on reports of her huge salary, Hannah said: “Absolutely none. It’s absolutely not true, what the trustees did was ask for a benchmarking and asked ‘If we were to employ a CEO what’s the highest, what’s the lowest’, so it’s simply not true.

“There’s nothing wrong, we haven’t made any false action and I genuinely think that the vast majority of people know that.

“But those click bait headlines have been destructive and have put the foundation in peril.”

Second World War veteran Captain Sir Tom inspired hope during the first national Covid-19 lockdown in 2020, raising £38.9 million for the NHS by walking 100 laps of his garden before his 100th birthday.

He died on February 2 last year with coronavirus.
