KOLHAPUR: Captain Rambhau Lad, the freedom fighter who led the Toofan Sena of the parallel government formed against the British in Maharashtra's Satara during 1940's breathed his last on Sunday.
The freedom fighter was 100. Born in Kundal, the village known for anti-British resistance in Sangli district, the centenarian led the para-military wing of the Prati Sarkar formed by Krantisinha Nana Patil.
Lad was the last freedom fighter having connection with the glorious fight led by Patil against the Britishers.
He led crackdowns on the pro-British elements and also punished the dreaded criminals.
His herioc leadership of looting running train episode got etched into the minds of the people for generations.
After freedom, he got involved as a wrestling commentator. Since he had a deep voice, his commentary made people to watch wrestling.
