Capsule reviews of feature films

THE AFTERMATH. 2 stars. A British officer and his wife have difficulties with the former owners of their home in post-World War II Hamburg. Keira Knightley and Jason Clarke star. An overpowering tone of soap opera is given to a worthy subject: the aftermath of World War II in Germany. 1 hr. 48 R (nudity) _ Gary Thompson

APOLLO 11. 3.5 stars. Todd Douglas Miller directs this documentary that looks at the first journey by people to the moon while demonstrating the unique power of reality to amaze. Adapted from previously unreleased film using the latest digital technology. Best seen in IMAX. 1 hr 33 G _ Gary Thompson

CAPTAIN MARVEL. 2 stars. Brie Larson stars as the superhero, who is caught in a battle between two alien races. The script gives our hero attributes, but no personality. 1 hr. 56 PG-13 (violence) _ Gary Thompson

CLIMAX. 2 stars. A French dance troupe's rehearsal in a remote building turns ugly when their drinks are spiked with LSD. 1 hr. 36 R (sex, violence) _ Gary Thompson

DUMBO. 2 stars. Mostly live-action and overly dark remake of the Disney classic about a beloved young elephant is missing the endearing quality of the original. 1 hr. 55 PG _ Gary Thompson

GLORIA BELL. 3 stars. A free-spirited divorcee (Julianne Moore) works by day and dances at Los Angeles clubs by night. 1 hr. 44 R (sex) _ Gary Thompson

HOTEL MUMBAI. 2.5 stars. Dramatic retelling of the bloody 2008 terrorist attack on a luxury Indian hotel that is melodramatic at times, but positively celebrates ordinary heroes. 2 hrs. 3 R (violence) _ Gary Thompson

HOW TO TRAIN YOUR DRAGON: THE HIDDEN WORLD. 2.5 stars. In this animated family sequel, Hiccup, now ruler of Berk, seeks a secret dragon utopia. 1 hr. 45 PG (action, rude humor) _ Gary Thompson

THE LEGO MOVIE 2: THE SECOND PART. 3 stars. Lego invaders from outer space wreck havoc in this animated sequel. While not as fun as the original, the animation is top notch. 1 hr. 46 PG-13 (rude humor) _ Gary Thompson

THE MUSTANG. 3.5 stars. A violent convict is given the opportunity to participate in a rehabilitation program involving training wild horses. Nicely acted and ultimately moving. 1 hr. 36 R (violence) _ Gary Thompson

PET SEMATARY. 2.5 stars. A doctor moves his family to rural Maine, near a pet cemetery where dark secrets are buried. Based on a book by Stephen King. 1 hr. 51 R (horror violence, bloody images, some profanity) _ Gary Thompson

SHAZAM! 3 stars. A streetwise 14-year-old is able to transform into a superhero by shouting one magic word in this family-friendly movie with the feel of a 1980s adventure comedy. 2 hrs. 12 PG-13 (intense sequences of action, profanity, suggestive material) _ Gary Thompson

THE UPSIDE. 2.5 stars. Competent if pat remake of the French hit "The Intouchables" about a streetwise guy (Kevin Hart) who bluffs his way into a job as caregiver to a wealthy man (Bryan Cranston) who paralysis has left him depressed. The story is predictable, but the two leads work well together, and Hart gets to add emotional sincerity to his brand of antic comedy. With Nicole Kidman, Julianna Margulies. 2 hrs. 6 PG-13 (language) _ Gary Thompson

US. 3 stars. A woman and her family are terrified by masked home invaders at the beach home where she grew up. But the real shock occurs when the masks come off. 1 hr. 54 R (violence) _ Gary Thompson
