Supermodel Caprice Bourret has warned of the dangers of using weight loss drugs such as Mounjaro after she suffered troubling side effects.

Caprice, 53, is famous for her waif-like figure but admits she began taking Mounjaro after going from a size eight to a 12 last year.

She said after easing off her health regime, her fondness for chocolate and red wine led to her gaining 20lbs, The Sun reports.

Caprice says the weight gain led to new health symptoms like heart palpitations and she struggled going up the stairs.

She said she was also worried about being fat-shamed and found it difficult to get rid of the weight naturally, which she put down to menopause.

A doctor prescribed a "micro-dose" of Mounjaro, which helped her lose five pounds in two months. But Caprice said the side effects caused her to quit the drug.

She said: “It was awful. I got sick to my stomach. I got dizzy and lightheaded, but I kept persisting because I needed to lose the weight.

“I continued for two months, mainly because there was all this research about the benefits for cardiovascular health.”

After taking the drug for two months, Caprice shifted five pounds but says she struggled with nausea and lost all cravings for food.

She decided to give up the drug and lost the remaining excess weight naturally by cutting out carbs and processed sugars.

Caprice says several of her friends have reported side effects after taking Mounjaro and another popular weight loss drug, Ozempic.

She added: "When you take Mounjaro for a long time your skin changes and loosens. I've seen it with my friends. You think you are going to avoid it but you don't.”

A native of Los Angeles, Caprice moved to New York as a teenager where she began her modelling career. She reached the heights of success in 1996 after appearing at the National TV Awards in a risqué black Versace dress.

She described disbelief at being "on the cover of every single newspaper" the next day and she went on to shoot over 250 magazine covers.

By the age of 25 she has earned her first million and became even more wealthy after a shrewd property investment in Surrey, which in turn led to a considerable property portfolio.

She launched a lingerie line with Debenhams in 2000 before buying back the rights in 2006 to create her own independent brand, By Caprice, which is said to have earned her £24 million.

Caprice has also pursued her goals of being an actress and has her own film company JJLove, named after her two sons Jett and Jax. Her latest film, A Scottish Christmas Secret, is coming to Channel 5 later this year.
