The ‘90s renaissance wouldn’t be complete without a pair of capri pants (or, as we called them back then, ‘pedal pushers’)—and thankfully, the cropped trouser is back, weaving its way into many a chic woman’s wardrobe: Emily Ratajkowski, Hailey Bieber and Gigi Hadid, included.
It’s been a long time coming. I knew the capri was destined to return back in 2018, when Chanel styled black, mid-length leggings with oversized blazers for Spring/Summer 19. My interest was piqued, but I longed for a more nostalgic, ‘90s reimagining—and for Spring/Summer 23, Jacquemus answered my prayers, in the form of polka-dot capris. Very Audrey Hepburn, with a little Carrie Bradshaw energy. This year, the trend is continuing to gain pace, with countless capri trouser styles in playful prints, vibrant shades and classic black tones all competing to pull us away from the beloved linen trouser.

When it comes to styling capri pants, very few looks are off the table. A graphic T-shirt angles the outfit towards laid-back cool, while a pointed-toe heel makes it feel effortlessly elegant. Or, of course, you can embody Marilyn Monroe with a vintage-feeling gingham capri and cropped blouse. Treat them as you would a classic ankle-skimming trouser and you’ll never be lost for ideas.
To prove the case for the capri comeback, below are five looks to inspire your next outfit. Now, to find a chic café to wear them to.

A black capri pant and black leather jacket

While capri pants are a staple of summer style, they can easily transition into cooler climes with the addition of a boxy leather jacket. Break up an all-black outfit with a graphic tee—Marilyn NK’s Chloé option is a perfect example.
