Capitol Lens | Norman Lear, 1922–2023 - Roll Call

Legendary television creator and producer Norman Lear died Tuesday at the age of 101. Lear, who revolutionized the media with groundbreaking sitcoms such as “All in the Family,” “Sanford and Son” and “Maude,” had a long history with Capitol Hill due to his political affiliations and reputation for social commentary.

In this archival photo from November 2018, Lear appears at a pre-Election Day concert at the Meyer Amphitheatre in West Palm Beach, Florida, with, from left, then-Florida Sen. Bill Nelson, musician Jimmy Buffett — who died in September — and Andrew Gillum, who was the Democratic candidate for governor.
