Capitals players noticed that Bryce Harper unfollowed them on social media

We’re at the start of spring training, and Bryce Harper remains without a team. And everyone is looking for hints as to where Harper will eventually end up.

That includes Washington Capitals players.

The All-Star outfielder has spent his entire big-league career as arguably the face of D.C. sports, so he’s gotten to know Capitals players just by being a fellow professional athlete in the city. But recently, Harper cut down on his social follows, and the Capitals took notice.

Capitals winger Tom Wilson told reporters on Monday that his teammates noticed they were unfollowed by Harper on social media, and Wilson joked that it could be a sign that Harper is heading elsewhere.

He said:

“I know a couple of us got the unfollow the other day, so I don’t know if that’s writing on the wall or what.”

On Twitter, Harper’s follow count went down to 24. The only Capitals player remaining was goaltender Braden Holtby. On Instagram, Harper doesn’t follow any Capitals players, but he does follow several members of the Golden Knights (he’s a Knights fan) and Maple Leafs star Auston Matthews.

We don’t know why Harper chose now to unfollow Capitals players, but at least he didn’t start following the Flyers or Sharks.
