Capital&Centric and Kamani Property offer up Northern Quarter site to help homeless during coronavirus crisis

Capital & Centric and Kamani Property have provided their Northern Quarter scheme to help Manchester’s homeless community during the coronavirus crisis.

In January, Kamani Property, owned by the family behind Boohoo and PrettyLittleThing, and Manchester developer Capital & Centric announced plans to redevelop a 14,000 sq ft site on Swan Street.

The property development firms have partnered with Greater Manchester Mayor’s Charity - which has launched a COVID-19 appeal - and charity Street Support to use their site as a drop-off location for essentials.

The firms are now calling on big businesses in the region to donate food, welfare and hygiene packages in bulk.

Kamani Property chief executive Adam Kamani said: “Our joint venture project with Capital & Centric, in Manchester’s Northern Quarter, is being utilised as a drop off point for essential items to help those affected by homelessness in and around Manchester.

“It goes without saying that this is a time to pool resources & lend a helping hand wherever possible, therefore we’re happy that we can do something to help during the current crisis.”

Items being requested for donation in the appeal:

  • Food packages – dry food such as cereals, microwaveable meals, tea/coffee, sugar, fruits

  • Welfare packages – toothbrush, toothpaste, flannels, shampoo, shower gel, sanitary products, deodorant

  • Hygiene packages – hand sanitiser, hand wash, soaps, wet wipes, tissues

  • Food preparation equipment – microwaves, hot plates

  • Cutlery and crockery – mnives, forks, bowls, plates, cups and mugs

  • Transportation – for delivery of food and welfare packages

  • Essential IT Equipment – smartphones, laptops

  • Solo activities – games, consoles, notebooks, pens
