The Cape Verde World Cup 2026 squad are representing one of the four debut nations competing for the first time in the United States, Canada and Mexico.
Despite having one of the most inexperienced squads at the tournament, the Blue Sharks are determined to make a name for themselves and enjoy the experience at the same time.
Head coach Bubista, who called up just one player from Europe's top five leagues, will be expecting a celebratory atmosphere at all three of Cape Verde's games in Atlanta, Miami and Houston.

There are some fantastic stories among this group. Captain, all-time scorer and record appearance-maker Ryan Mendes is leading the line 16 years after his debut, while Pico represents Shamrock Rovers on the international stage and is the first Irish-born player born in the 1990s to play at the World Cup.
There aren't many players we thought were dead-certs who have been excluded, with goalkeeper Bruno Varela the most-capped player of anyone who's played for Bubista in the last year to miss out – and he only has eight caps.
Getting a result in the United States this summer will be an extremely tall order for this group, with Spain, Uruguay and Saudi Arabia all coming up Group H.

The Creoles will become the third-smallest nation to ever play in the tournament (behind Iceland and fellow 2026 debutants Curacao), an achievement unthinkable for the Atlantic archipelago a few short years ago.
Built on defensive organisation, diaspora talent and the steady leadership of coach Pedro ‘Bubista’ Brito, the Blue Sharks have already made history but will be circling for more. They have established an impressive pedigree in AFCON – two-time quarter-finalists, they regularly cause upsets and have lost just once in 12 group games.

Show no fear. They saw off African heavyweights Cameroon to reach their first World Cup, thanks to a decisive 1-0 home win last September. A rollercoaster 3-3 draw away to Libya in the penultimate qualifier set nerves jangling but in front of a raucous crowd in the capital Praia, Cape Verde beat Eswatini 3-0.
