Cape Town farmers laid off amid water crisis

Cape Town farmers laid off amid water crisis

Cape Town in South Africa is running out of water, and farmers in rural areas surrounding the city are suffering. About 30,000 seasonal farm workers have been laid off, with the threat of more layoffs if it does not rain soon.

The crisis is so severe that the city may soon have to shut off access to tap water.

Al Jazeera's Malcolm Webb reports from Western Cape, South Africa.
