Caoimhin Kelleher to start for Liverpool against Arsenal as Pep Lijnders confirms Carabao Cup intention

Caoimhin Kelleher will continue in goal for Liverpool in the League Cup against Arsenal on Wednesday.

Kelleher performed admirably when making his Reds debut in a 2-0 win at MK Dons in the third round last month.

The 20-year-old is a Republic of Ireland under-21 international and a regular for the Liverpool U23s.

But while Adrian, who made 11 appearances earlier this season deputising for the injured Alisson Becker, is regarded as Liverpool's number two goalkeeper, Kelleher will continue in the League Cup.

“We have Adrian, who did an unbelievable job and if something happens with Ali, Adrian is our number two and then has to do the job,” said Liverpool assistant manager Pep Lijnders.

“But in this League Cup, it is Caoimhin’s competition. As I said before the MK Dons game, with youth development, with these moments when they are in between the U23s and the first team, consistency is very important.

“He had a good game and he is preparing for another one. It will be special for him playing at Anfield.”
