Caoimhin Kelleher injury update as Brentford goalkeeper misses pre-season friendly

Brentford hope to have Caoimhin Kelleher available for the start of the new season after the goalkeeper picked up a knock during training.

The £18million summer signing from Liverpool will be the first-choice goalkeeper for the Bees this season but was absent from the matchday squad on Friday to take on Borussia Monchengladbach as Hakon Valdimarsson started in his place.

Forward pair Kevin Schade and Gusto Nunes were also no-shows for the 2-2 draw, and head coach Keith Andrews issued an update on all three after the game.

Andrews was upbeat over both Kelleher and Schade, but was asked about Nunes's return to the said, he said: "Exact time scale, I'm not entirely sure.

"Certainly not in the Kevin and Caoihmin [Kterritory of short-term. It will be more significant than that, it will be weeks."

Kelleher is understood to have been left out of the squad as a "precaution" and remains in contention to face Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend of the Premier League season.

Without Kelleher, Schade and Nunes, Brentford drew 2-2 with Gladbach in the final pre-season friendly.

Fábio Carvalho and Mikkel Damsgaard cancelled out Grant-Leon Ranos' opener before Franck Honorat earned a share of the spoils late on.

Brentford will play Gladbach again on Saturday in a behind-closed-doors game.
