Caoimhin Kelleher blow as four ruled out of Serbia clash

Caoimhin Kelleher has been ruled out of Ireland's World Cup qualifiers against Serbia and Luxembourg.

The Liverpool ace was poised to make his debut on Wednesday with Darren Randolph already sidelined.

But he has failed to recover from an abdominal injury and Bournemouth’s Mark Travers will start in Belgrade.

Conor Hourihane and Callum O’Dowda will also miss the Serbia showdown after shipping injuries playing for their clubs yesterday.

In-form Hourihane lasted just 18 minutes of Swansea City’s defeat to Cardiff City although the precise nature of his issue has not been disclosed.

And O’Dowda - who was only returning from a three month layoff - aggravated a hamstring injury in Bristol City’s defeat to Rotherham and left the pitch in tears.

Burnley defender Kevin Long has also been ruled out of this week’s games in a further blow to Stephen Kenny.

The Ireland boss has called up Blackburn’s Darragh Lenihan as cover while West Ham midfielder Conor Coventry - who played in Kenny’s Under-21s - gets his first call-up.

Coventry has been promoted from the Under-21s as he was named in Jim Cawford’s squad last week ahead of this Friday’s friendly in Wales.

Josh Cullen, who joins up with the squad tomorrow, was sent off in Anderlecht's win over Zulte Waregem last night. The midfielder, who has been a big hit since moving to Belgium from West Ham, came on in the 70th minute but walked on a second yellow with five minutes to go.
