Caoimhin Agyarko ready to follow Carl Frampton 'blueprint'

Caoimhin Agyarko says he's ready to follow Carl Frampton's "blueprint" and deliver more big-time boxing to Belfast.

Agyarko is one of several boxers being tipped to take up the mantle left by Frampton who retired back in April.

The Jackal - a former two-weight world champion - packed out the SSE Arena on numerous occasions and also sold out Windsor Park in one of his career-defining nights in the city.

Unbeaten middleweight Agyarko - who recently signed up with Eddie Hearn's Matchroom Sport - is plotting similar success, and wants to be the man to give fans some "big nights" in Belfast.

The 24-year-old said: "Carl showed that Belfast fans get behind their fighters and I feel like he has left a blueprint there on how to give fans big nights, and that's what I want to do.

"I want to go back and repay my fans. They have supported me during the tough times over Covid and coming over here to watch me fight.

"So I feel like it's time to come back to Belfast and bring some big nights back to Belfast."

Agyarko has fought most of his professional career away from home, with just one of his nine fights to date taking place in Belfast.

He is expected to be on his travels again next month, with his 10th fight due to be on the undercard of a big bill featuring Katie Taylor and Conor Benn in Liverpool on December 11.

Matchroom Sport Chairman Hearn recently said: “I’m delighted to welcome the exciting and dangerous middleweight talent Caoimhin Agyarko to the Matchroom ranks.

"Caoimhin has a real viciousness to his fighting style and is sure to be a fan favourite for DAZN viewers all around the world. ‘Black Thunder’ has a remarkable story and I look forward to guiding him towards some huge nights in Belfast.”
