Claudio Monteverdi was master of music at St Mark’s Basilica in Venice from 1613. More than 400 years later, multi-award winning Melbourne artist Angela Cavalieri has returned from a residency at Venice’s La Scuola Grafica Internationale, with linocut prints inspired by Monteverdi’s final opera, and Madrigals of War and Peace.

For the past four years, Cavalieri has explored “music as storytelling” in her art practice, looking at Monteverdi’s madrigals as part of her fellowship. Her linocuts will be presented during Melbourne festival, alongside two musical programs, Variations and Cantations.
