Mandarin Oriental, Bangkok is to welcome from Guangdong, China, celebrity chef Guangfan Mai, the founder and CEO of the Prince restaurant group -- and the "King of Abalone", as he's regarded worldwide by highbrow epicures -- to its China House restaurant from June 26-30.

During his stay in Bangkok, chef Mai will showcase his dexterity in Cantonese cuisine through a unique set menu that highlights sumptuous abalone and other top-notch organic produce from different regions of China.
Available on a daily basis, Mai's 8-course dinner (actually, a total of 14 dishes), dubbed the Chinese Food Culture Dinner, includes his award-winning signature dish -- a dry 15-head South African abalone sugar heart with white asparagus.
Featured also are prime ingredients such as Shandong sea cucumber; salted Tibetan black pork ham; Yunnan black truffle gel with Lijiang supreme caviar; clear chicken soup stew with Changbai mountain matsutake mushroom; and Zhejiang Jinhua ham with marble goby.
On June 30, the event will conclude with a 6-course, East-meets-West dinner finale, a collaboration between the Cantonese guest chef and the hotel's very own chef de cuisine, Arnaud Dunand Sauthier of the two Michelin-starred Le Normandie French restaurant.
The exclusive four-hand meal will include some culinary creations by the star-studded French chef. Expect to find prime seafood with Kristal caviar and horseradish, as well as roasted Challan duck with eggplant, grapefruit and black garlic. A selection of pairing wine is available.
Prices are 9,888 net per person for the Chinese Food Culture Dinner, and 8,888 baht net per person for the collaboration dinner.
