Canny Boots worker who wanted £1k pink Smeg fridge decides to paint her own for £20

A Boots worker who wanted a pink Smeg fridge worth upwards of £1,000 decided to opt for a savvy alternative - by painting her own for just £20.

Emilie Musson, 22, who lives in Gedling, realised forking out such a cost for a new fridge may have been a step too far and therefore took matters into her own hands.

Ms Musson, who works at the Boots head office in Nottingham, took a trip down to her local Wilko to pick up some supplies ready to get started on her DIY project during her week off.

She then managed to transform an old white fridge freezer - which had been picked up for free two years ago from the Facebook market place - in just three days.

"I've been working through lockdown and last week I took a week off, so I thought I would get creative," she told Nottinghamshire Live.

"I've had it for two years and I got it free from a guy from Hucknall off the Facebook market place.

"I was going to buy a new fridge, I looked at a Smeg fridge, which is about £1,000. The pink fridges are quite rare to come across, Smeg only really does them, but they are expensive.

"In total mine cost me £20 for the paint and brushes. I used a satin-finish paint by Johnstone's and I would say use a primer from Wilko, it's about £5.

"It took me about three days because I had to defrost my freezer. It looks amazing."

Ms Musson posted her method on the video-sharing app TikTok and shared it on the Extreme Couponing and Bargains UK Facebook group, where she says it has since gone viral.

She says she received an abundance of messages asking just how she managed to achieve the results from numerous people online.

"I've had so many messages from people saying they want to have a go themselves," Ms Musson added.

"I did think about doing my furniture, like my desk, in the future."
