Notable entries in the lineup include 'The Surfer,' a thriller starring Nicolas Cage, 'Twilight of the Warriors: Walled In,' an action film from Hong Kong, and 'I, The Executioner' from South Korea.

Rumors abound about the political comedy 'Rumors' directed by Guy Maddin and featuring Alicia Vikander, Cate Blanchett, and Charles Dance, which will premiere out of competition. Additionally, documentaries like 'La belle de Gaza' and 'L'Invasion' will receive special screenings, addressing timely political issues.

This year, Cannes will honor legendary filmmaker George Lucas with an honorary Palme d'Or for his contributions to cinema. The festival will also introduce a competitive immersive section featuring virtual and augmented reality works, pushing the boundaries of storytelling.

An international jury, led by director Greta Gerwig, will select the winners, including the coveted Palme d'Or award. Canadian filmmaker Xavier Dolan will head the jury for the Un Certain Regard category.
