Twenty-One films are competing for the Palme d'Or this year as the 71st Cannes Film Festival gets under way in France.

It is not just about showing films, it is also about securing funding to get new ones made.

But outside of Europe, a lack of funds is having an impact on independent cinema.

Films are in danger of becoming Eurocentric and rarely seen by audiences in their own country.
