Todd Haynes is a filmmaker who brings music to the screen like no other: from glam rock odyssey "The Velvet Goldmine" in 1998 to 2007's Bob Dylan study "I'm Not There". His latest film zooms in on a band once considered so subversive that their music was banned from record stores and radio stations.
"The Velvet Underground" takes a look at the personalities which formed that legendary band and the avant garde art scene of 1960s New York which fostered their creative pursuits.
Haynes tells us about working within the shadow of pop artist Andy Warhol, about the specific cultural context of that moment and the legacy that its musicians have left those who followed in their wake.
