Cannes 2019: Amber Heard, Julianne Moore and Alessandra Ambrosio hit Les Miserables premiere

On Wednesday night the Cannes red carpet was filled once again with some of the hottest names in fashion and Hollywood for the premiere of Les Miserables.

Out for the second night in a row were model Alessandra Ambrosio - who stepped out in a red dress split to the thigh - and Elle Fanning, who wore a full-skirted gown with flowers woven into her hair. Julianne Moore also made it out two nights running, swapping her bottle green dress for a dramatic black gown and fitted leather cape.

Actress and L’Oreal ambassador Amber Heard also hit the red carpet in a pale sequin dress, cinched in with a wide brown belt.

The 72nd Cannes Film Festival began on Tuesday night with the premiere of zombie movie The Dead Don’t Die.

Earlier today, one of the film's stars Selena Gomez joined her fellow The Dead Don't Die cast members for a photocall and press conference, where she spoke about the dangers of social media. "[It] has been terrible for my generation” she said, saying she had met fans heavily affected by a culture of virtual bullying.

Gomez was joined on the panel by Tilda Swinton, who called for greater female representation in filmmaking. “Women have been making films for 11 decades now,” Swinton said. “There are countless films out there. Why don’t we necessarily know about them? We have women filmmakers. Some are working bars, some are still in school, some can’t get into school. But that’s where we need to start. We need to look at the canon, appreciate it, stream it. Then it will exist amongst us. It’s not some ‘other’ thing that we have to somehow find. It all exists — we just have to pay attention to it and bring it up.”
