More than 6700 cannabis plants worth an estimated $20 million have been seized by police during a blitz in Sydney's southwest.

Some 34 search warrants were executed across the region in one week, with 6720 cannabis plants seized and nine people arrested - seven men and two women.

One house, from which 124 plants were confiscated, was located next to a childcare centre in Chester Hill.

At another, opposite a public school in Hinchinbrook, 186 plants with an estimated street value of $372,000 were seized.

"In one week, we have managed to seize and destroy more than $20 million worth of cannabis, reducing the influence of criminal gangs and their illegal activities across Sydney," region Commander Assistant Commissioner Tony Cooke said.

The nine people arrested are facing a variety of charges, including cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis, using electricity and water without authority and possessing a prohibited drug.
