Two men charged after £1million cannabis seizure in East Belfast

Two men have been charged after cannabis worth £1million was seized in South Belfast on Tuesday, the PSNI says.

Officers stopped a car on the Ravenhill Road on January 28 and arrested the two occupants “on suspicion of drugs offences”.

A “significant quantity of cannabis was then uncovered during a follow-up search of an address in Belfast”, police say.

The two males, aged 29 and 61 years old, were charged with a number of drug-related offences and will appear before Belfast Magistrates' Court on Thursday morning.

A third suspect, aged 43, was also arrested during the search.

Police have not said where in Belfast the follow-up search occurred, however it is understood officers may be involved in ongoing activity linked to the investigation.

A PSNI spokesperson said: "Two men have been charged with offences including possession of a Class B controlled drug with intent to supply, conspiracy to supply a Class B controlled drug and possessing criminal property. 

"The 29-year-old man has additionally been charged with possession of a false identity document.

"The charges relate to a £1 million drugs seizure in the greater Belfast area on Tuesday, 28th January.

"As is normal procedure all charges will be reviewed by the Public Prosecution Service.

"A third man, aged 43 years old, who was also arrested on Tuesday (28th January) has been released unconditionally in relation to drug-related offences."
