Cannabis seized as police stop motorists in Shotts

Police found cannabis and cash when they stopped a car being driven by a Shotts man.

Kieren Fallan, 25, of Cove Crescent, appeared at Hamilton Sheriff Court last week.

He admitted having the Class B drug with intent to supply others in Miller Street and West Craigs Road, Harthill, on November 23.

Wendy McAdam, prosecuting, said police had cause to stop the vehicle and found a black carrier bag in the rear footwell. Inside were 12 packages of cannabis with a total street value of £360. Officers also recovered £600.

Sentence on Fallan was deferred until April 24 for background reports and an electronic tagging assessment. He had his bail continued.

Two passengers in the car, Bryan Mitchell, 25, of Cowdenbeath, Fife, and Lauren Earl, 24, of Balbakie
Road, Harthill, had their not guilty pleas to the charge accepted.

At the same court Mark Smith, 31, of Bell Street, Wishaw, admitted a similar charge. Ms McAdam said police officers stopped his vehicle in Nethan Avenue, Netherton, on December 14. There was a smell of cannabis which was found in the glove compartment. Smith took the officers to his home where more cannabis was found.

The total value of the drugs seized was £850.

Smith will be sentenced on April 24.
