Cannabis plants found in Nottinghamshire village after 'suspicious power outages'

More than 80 cannabis plants were found in a Nottinghamshire village following 'suspicious power outages' in the area, police say.

Officers attended a property in North Avenue in Rainworth just after 2.10pm on Monday, January 25, and discovered four rooms filled with mature cannabis plants.

No one was in the house at the time.

The cannabis dismantling team took 88 plants away the following day (January 26).

Sergeant Christian Hurley, from the Rainworth beat team, said: "This good work by our teams means that 88 plants worth of cannabis is now off the streets and unable to fall into the wrong hands.

"We take reports of drugs activity very seriously and we will investigate thoroughly where there are such reports.

“The large-scale production of illegal drugs has a significant negative impact on our communities that often brings with it violence and other related offending. We are determined to clamp down on the people responsible.

"We would highly encourage anyone in the community to report their concerns to us.

"Our neighbourhood policing teams and our local Reacher teams are there for that exact purpose, to listen to any information you might have about any crime and act upon it. We are there to tackle the issues that matter to you.

"Criminal behaviour will not be tolerated in the Newark and Sherwood area and we hope that these positive results reassure the public and show our determination to serve our communities and dedicate our time tackling issues that they tell us about.

“We are keen to hear from anyone who has any information and we would encourage them to call 101, quoting incident 306 of 25 January 2021."
