Cannabis farms next door to each other busted by police

Police busting one cannabis farm chanced upon a second - in the house next door.

Officers arrested a 21-year-old man on Rathbone Road, Wavertree on Sunday morning after three bags of cannabis were found in his possession.

Police had conducted a routine stop-and-search after the man was spotted "acting suspiciously".

Police said a subsequent search of a house on Edge Lane Drive revealed a large cannabis farm housing "around 175 plants" spread across three bedrooms and in the attic, worth "in the region of £700,000".

Officers also seized a large TV and a mountain bike.

The 21-year-old was further arrested on suspicion of production of cannabis and abstracting electricity.

As police were finishing the search, they noticed that the upper bedroom windows of a neighbouring house had been boarded up.

They knocked on the neighbour’s door and, after a search, found another cannabis farm.

The occupant, a 60-year-old man, was arrested.

Both men were taken to custody for questioning.

Inspector Katie Wilkinson said: "It is not often that we find two cannabis farms in neighbouring properties.

"I’d like to express my thanks to our observant and proactive officers for conducting the searches and managing to take a large amount of illegal substances off our streets.

"Anyone that knows someone involved in criminality should get in touch and help us keep Merseyside as safe as it can be." #OpTarget

These latest finds come after a 41-year-old woman was arrested on suspicion of drug offences after police spotted a car being driven dangerously in Wavertree on Saturday.

The car was then searched and she was found to be in possession of over 1,000 containers suspected of being used to distribute cannabis.

A subsequent search of her house in Dingle was carried out resulted in police uncovering a large amount of cannabis disguised as "legal highs" worth around £7,000-£8,000, and a large quantity of money hidden in the fridge and drugs paraphernalia.

The woman was arrested on suspicion of possession with intent to supply Class B drugs and possession of criminal property.
