Cannabis farmers 'line tapped' mains cable in 'highly dangerous' bid to get free electricity

Cannabis farmers in Moss Side put lives at risk by 'line taping' a mains cable to get free electricity.

Police seized dozens of cannabis plants from a house on Caythorpe Street on Friday night.

During the investigation officers discovered the growers had illegally tapped into the electricity grid.

Police shared a picture of the doctored cable alongside images of the plants.

A post on the GMP Longsight & Moss Side Facebook page said: "A cannabis farm has been located by police on Caythorpe Street, Moss Side last night.

"As part of our investigation, engineers from @ElectricityNW attended and found that the mains electricity cable into the address had been 'line tapped' in order to evade any payment.

"This activity is highly dangerous, is illegal and ultimately endangers lives.

"Engineers have now made the property safe and there is no longer any danger to residents.

"This was a prolonged operation led by your local team and @ElectricityNW.

"Enquiries are ongoing to identify those responsible and no arrests have been made, yet!"
