Cannabis farmer who staged dirty protest in back of police car

A cannabis farmer who defecated in the back of a police car has now been told he has to stay indoors every night for six months.

Police attended the home of Gavin Delaney in Market Street, Bacup, near Bury, on October 2 last year after being under investigation for other offences. During the visit, officers came across 27 cannabis plants capable of producing around 1,480g of the drug.

Officers also suspected that Gavin was bypassing the electricity in a bid to avoid detection. At Blackburn Magistrates' Court on Thursday (November 17), prosecutor Sameena Chaudhry said that the 29-year-old had committed two acts of criminal damage after being interviewed at Waterfoot Police Station, Lancs Live reports.

Ms Chaudhry said: "The defendant had just left the police station when he became abusive and aggressive. He went over the road and called 999 from a telephone box saying he'd been assaulted.

"He made numerous threats officers and police property. He damaged a vehicle in the police station car park, causing damage to windows and panels, and he defecated in the rear of a police vehicle requiring it to be specialist cleaned."

The court heard how Delayned had been sentenced to a community order in July this year for an unrelated offences and must complete various courses and sessions. Since July, he has completed six rehabilitation activity requirement days out of 25 and had attended 11 out of 12 appoitnments.

Delaney, who pleaded guilty to two counts of criminal damage and being concerned in the production of cannabis, was given a six-month curfew between the hours of 7pm and 7am. He has also been ordered to pay £300 compensation - magistrates also ordered the forfeiture and destruction of the cannabis plants.
