Cannabis farm with 300 plants found in Hazlerigg loft during police raid on home

A cannabis farm of around 300 illegal plants has been discovered in a loft in Hazlerigg, Newcastle.

Police were told of a suspected cannabis farm at a home in Castle Street in the village at around 12.30pm on Friday.

When they arrived, they searched a house and found around 300 cannabis plants in the loft.

Officers remained at the scene on Saturday morning as evidence was collected.

The farm has been removed and the cannabis plants have since been destroyed.

Officers are now working to find those responsible and have asked anyone with information to come forward.

 

A spokesperson for Northumbria Police said: "At about 12.30pm on Friday police received a report of a suspected cannabis farm at an address on Castle Street in Hazelrigg.

"Officers attended the address and found a cannabis farm containing an estimated 300 plants in the loft of the property.

"The farm has been dismantled and destroyed and inquiries are now ongoing to trace those responsible for the farm.

"Anyone with information or intelligence about the farm is encouraged to contact police on 101 quoting log 509 22/03/19."
