Cannabis farm found in raid after neighbours complain

A cannabis farm was discovered in a police raid.

Yesterday morning officers attended an address on Harlech Road, Crosby after reports of a strong smell of cannabis coming from the house. Numerous complaints were raised by neighbours in the surrounding area.

Officers carried out a search and found a cannabis cultivation, with 81 plants, within a block of flats. Police report that the premises has been made safe and investigations are underway to locate those responsible.

The seizures are the work of a special police team targeting criminals on the streets of South Sefton. Operation Pelican was set up in 2017 to disrupt gangs causing misery through drug dealing and shootings in Bootle, Netherton, Litherland, and neighbouring communities.

A spokesperson for the police said: "At around 10.45am yesterday, Thursday 19 May, officers attended an address on Harlech Road, Crosby, following reports of a strong smell of cannabis.

"Officers executed a warrant and a cannabis farm consisting of 81 plants across two growing rooms was recovered. The premises has been made safe and enquiries are ongoing to find those responsible."

Some of the signs that cannabis is being grown are:

- Strange smells and sounds
- Frequent and varied visitors to a property, often at unusual times
- Gardening equipment being taken into a property, such as plant pots, fertiliser, fans and industrial lighting
- Windows are sealed and covered or the curtains are permanently closed
- Heat from an adjoining property
- Birds gathering on a roof in cold weather

"Individually these activities may seem commonplace, however, together may indicate something more suspicious

"Anyone with information on suspected drug production or criminal activity in their community can contact @MerPolCC, call 101 or come forward anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. Always call 999 if a crime is in progress."
