Cannabis farm discovered at former Bristol police station

A cannabis farm has been discovered at a former police station in south Bristol.

The drugs set-up, which included around 100 plants, was found by a phone engineer in a building in Clanage Road which formerly belonged to Avon and Somerset Constabulary.

The building once also housed stables for police horses, but was sold off by the force in May 2017.

Plastic sheeting along the floor, several large discarded halogen bulbs and plant pots were found in the building.

The telephone engineer who came across the plants said he was shaken by the discovery.

"It looked like a very good set-up with plastic sheeting all along the floor," he said.

"It was very surreal to be honest. I'm still shaken by it and still thinking about it now. It's the sort of thing you see on TV."

A police spokesman said: "We were called at about 9.30am yesterday to reports that a cannabis factory had been located within the building which was previously the Police Mounted and Dog Section on Clanage Road.

"With the assistance of Op Viscount staff, more than over 100 plants were removed from the location.

Can you smell cannabis?

"News that the force was to move to The Hand in Clevedon was made in 2015 and the new Wilfred Fuller VC Operational Training Centre was officially opened in May 2017.

"The former mounted and dogs section at Bower Ashton was sold on to a new buyer."
