Cannabis dealer tried to get rid of Rambo-style knife on the seat of a police van

A cannabis dealer tried to get rid of seven-inch black Rambo-type knife by leaving it on the seat of a police van after his arrest in The Meadows, a court heard.

As well as the discovery of the hunting knife, Eldante Jacobs, 19, had 16 deals of crack cocaine on him with a street value of about £160.

When his phone was analysed, it was clear he was involved in the supply of cannabis, Nottingham Crown Court heard on Thursday, July 29.

There were transactions and agreements for transactions up to several hundred pounds to four or five customers on his phone and he had been bragging about how quickly he was selling.

Police had been on patrol in Hawthorn Close, The Meadows, when they spoke with him before he was taken into custody.

Adam Norris, prosecuting, told the court: "It is said he is a street dealer and that he runs an operation that puts him in significant role".

He was arrested on August 6 last year, was charged on March 12 this year, and appeared before magistrates. He was on court bail to appear at Nottingham Crown Court on April 12.

But he reoffended just days before the court appearance when he was involved in an affray.

Mr Norris said there was obviously a background of tension between the complainant and the defendant and there had been friction between them in the weeks before April 7.

"On April 7 there was a coming together between the two of them," he explained.

Jacobs, of no fixed address, pulled from his trousers a machete but the victim disarmed him and restrained him until police arrived.

Mr Norris said: "What we now have is the third and fourth possession of a blade, which seems to be something of a habit which is hard to break for this defendant".

Jacobs had two previous convictions for possession of an offensive weapon in 2017 and possessing a knife in 2019.

He pleaded guilty to supplying cannabis, possession with intent to supply cocaine, two charges of possessing a blade and affray.

He was locked up for a total of 33 months in youth custody and will serve half before he is released on licence.

Steven Gosnell, mitigating, said this was not a case where he was carrying a weapon and used the weapon offensively to threaten others.

The complainant had approached Jacobs and Jacobs was grabbed around the neck and punched several times.

They lost their balance and fell to the ground. Jacobs had involved himself in the scuffle that followed.
