Cannabis and €5,000 in cash seized at Operation Fanacht checkpoint in Finglas, north Dublin

Gardai seized drugs and €5,000 in cash at an Operation Fanacht checkpoint in Finglas, in north Dublin on Wednesday.

Local officers along with the Garda Dog Unit and the Garda Mounted Unit held a community engagement day in the area with checkpoints set up to engage with locals and explain the Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

At one of the checkpoints in the Lanesborough Park area, cannabis and €5,000 in cash was seized, Dublin Live reports.

A man in his 20s was arrested in connection to the seizure.

Gardai said: "While conducting a checkpoint at Lanesborough Park, a car was stopped and searched, during the course of this search cannabis (subject to analysis) and €5,000 was recovered, a man in his 20s was arrested and will appear before the courts soon.

"Compliance among motorists was excellent and the feedback and support from the local community was appreciated.

"These unprecedented times are not easy for anyone but if we adhere to HSE guidelines we can look forward to better times ahead. All Public Health Guidelines remain in place until 5/5/20 & we encourage ongoing compliance please."
