Canelo Alvarez trainer confirms talks with Anthony Joshua ahead of Oleksandr Usyk rematch

Canelo Alvarez's trainer Eddy Reynoso has confirmed he has held talks with Anthony Joshua and Eddie Hearn, as the Brit searches for a new trainer.

Joshua is looking for a change following his defeat to Oleksandr Usyk in September, where he conceded his three heavyweight titles.

The 2012 Olympic champion has activated his rematch clause and will face-off against Usyk once again in 2022, as he seeks redemption following a second career loss.

A new trainer will be crucial to his hopes and Reynoso is among those to have been spoken to, following his work with Canelo.

Reynoso was among four coaches that AJ went to see in America following his loss and, while he clarified it was merely to gain experience, he hasn't ruled out being coached by one of the quartet - and Reynoso has admitted he wants the job.

“It would be a matter of seeing the times. We spoke with Eddie Hearn and Anthony Joshua and we will see what can be done next year. It is my job and of course I would like," he said, as quoted by TalkSport.

Reynoso also identified aspects of AJ's fighting that requires improvement, stating that he doesn't take advantage of his physical advantages.

“He needs to work more distance, better combinations. He has many physical qualities and I think he does not take advantage of them.”

That was one of the biggest criticisms regarding AJ's approach to his defeat against Usyk, as the Brit shedded weight and removed his size advantage from the equation.

If Reynoso was to be named as Joshua's new trainer ahead of next year's rematch, it appears that would be reversed.
