Canelo Alvarez has weighed in with his opinion on the heavyweight division, backing Frank Sanchez to become a world champion.
The impressive Cuban fighter took his professional record to 20-0 with a comfortable victory over Christian Hammer in Florida on New Year's Day, starting 2022 with a fine performance.
He harbours aspirations of becoming a heavyweight champion in 2022, though faces a wait for his shot due to the situation in the division which is likely to lead to a unification bout later this year.
That is set to see Tyson Fury face-off against either Oleksandr Usyk or Anthony Joshua, though Dillian Whyte lies in wait first.
Beneath that trio, however, an intriguing situation is developing with Joseph Parker and others lying in wait as they seek to get their shot.
Among them is Sanchez, a sparring partner of four-weight world champion Canelo, and the Mexican believes he can win a belt at heavyweight level.
“He will be world champion, he will sweep everyone in the heavyweight division, because he is a special talent," Canelo told El Nuevo Herald.
Sanchez himself is confident that he can knock-out Fury if he was to meet the Gypsy King in the ring, making his views clear after his latest triumph.
“I knock him out easily. He has no boxing skills," he claimed, before giving a similar view in regards to Oleksandr Usyk.
“Even easier. Usyk has movement but he doesn’t have the technique that I do.”
