Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant denied face-off as Mike Tyson oversees weigh-in

Canelo Alvarez and Caleb Plant were denied the opportunity to come face-to-face after weighing for their fight as Mike Tyson watched on.

Alvarez and Plant will meet on Saturday night in Las Vegas to crown the first-ever undisputed super-middleweight champion in boxing history.

Both Alvarez and Plant hit the mark for their clash, with Alvarez weighing on the limit at 168lbs whilst Plant came in a pound under at 167lbs.

Ring legend Tyson made a surprise appearance at the weigh-ins, walking onstage at the MGM Grand Garden Arena to overlook the two men weighing in.

Alvarez and Plant made their rivalry personal in September after coming to blows at their first press conference.

Their scuffle in Los Angeles left Plant with a cut under his eye, something he claimed was because of the sunglasses he was wearing.

Plant blamed his opponent for no face-off taking place at their Thursday press conference and they were again denied a face-to-face after both weighing in on Friday afternoon.

And after making weight for the fight, Alvarez promised Plant will face something he's never seen before.

"I said you will see tomorrow, it's time. He will feel something different, believe me," he said.

"Like I said before, for every action is a reaction. I have good blood inside of me.

Plant won the IBF title 2019 but has since defended it against soft competition as he faces a big step up against the pound-for-pound No.1 Alvarez.

Alvarez said it was a big honour to have former heavyweight champion Tyson in attendance for the weigh-in.

"It means a lot, he was a great fighter, a legend. I wanna be like him one day, so it means a lot," he said.

And whilst admitting that fighting used to drive him insane, Tyson backed Alvarez to get the job done.

"The champion, yes. He's proven himself to be the best fighter of his generation and he deserves to have the nod," Tyson said when asked his prediction.

And Alvarez admitted there is genuine animosity between him and Plant after their scuffle in September.

"It’s very different from normal and it’s definitely the most animosity I’ve had with an opponent heading into a big fight," he said.

“I’m sticking with my prediction of a knockout before round eight. The first couple of rounds will be difficult, but as the fight progresses, I am going to be able to get him out of there.

“I delivered the message I had to at our press conference. I don’t have to say anything else to Plant."
