The 49ers might have a couple of issues at tight end going into the 2020 season. Chris Biderman of the Sacramento Bee and Kyle Madson dove into those potential problems during their depth chart deep dive on the Candlestick Chronicles podcast.
The biggest question in the tight end group, and perhaps on the entire roster, is whether George Kittle gets his massive extension soon. The guys dive into some of the hiccups and reasons the deal hasn’t gotten done yet for the NFL’s best tight end.
Then they look over the rest of the depth chart where the quality behind Kittle falls off pretty dramatically. There could be a battle brewing for the backup tight end job, and the winner of that may wind up having a bigger role in the offense than the TE2 did last year.
