Candle and face cream shoplifter jailed

A man came out of prison with nowhere to sleep and is now back inside because he went shoplifting.

Wayne Bestwick's problems were outlined at Nottingham Magistrates' Court where he admitted three thefts from branches of Boots.

A 22-week prison term was ordered for the 37-year-old. Abigail Wright, mitigating, told the court: "He was released from prison after receiving a custodial sentence on January 10 and fell back into old habits because he came out and was homeless".

The court heard that he took £170 of fragrances from the Intu Victoria Centre on February 2. Three days later he stole five yankee candles and four packs of face cream worth £294 from the Lister Gate branch on February 5.

On Saturday, February 8, he returned to the Lister Gate shop and stole a yankee candle worth £29, said Sanjay Jerath, prosecuting.

Bestwick has no income and was excused paying for the missing goods.
