Candidates to replace Jan Vertonghen and the truth behind the Gareth Bale to Tottenham rumour

Here's all the news from around the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium over the past 24 hours.

Truth behind rumours

As always, Tottenham Hotspur have been linked with a host of players in this summer transfer window.

Whilst some signings may come to fruition, others will be proved wide of the mark.

With that in mind, we have taken a look at the players strongly linked with Spurs this summer and delivered our verdict on how likely a deal is to happen.

'No-brainer' - Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest on Callum Wilson links

Take Gareth Bale, for example.

Whilst the Real Madrid outcast has consistently been linked with a move back to Spurs, there is very little chance of it actually happen.

Even ignoring his reported £625,000-a-week wages at the Bernabeu, he just does not fit any aspect of the club's transfer policy.

Contenders to replace Vertonghen

Tottenham Hotspur's No. 5 shirt is available for the first time in eight years.

Jan Vertonghen has vacated the shirt after wearing it with distinction since his 2012 move from Ajax.

Yet who will replace the centre-back?

Spurs have been linked with Kim Min-Jae, a highly-rated 23-year-old currently at Beijing Guoan but it could well prove to be a current player that ends up moving into the role.

Take a look at the different candidates here.

How holidays work for Spurs

The end of the season saw many footballers fly abroad for their annual holiday, despite the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.

Whilst the UK has opened up 'air bridges' with some countries, allowing people to travel freely overseas, not every holiday destination falls within that balance.

So how do things work for those footballers who have headed to a destination without an air bridge?

football.london understands that some clubs believe exemptions from quarantine will not be granted to footballers returning from holiday.

Yet there is some confusion over whether this is truly the case.

It creates problems due to the fact that, for many clubs, pre-season training starts in less than two weeks, which is the amount of time needed to quarantine.
