Candidates give final push to poll campaign on last day

MOHALI: Roadshows, public meetings and door-to-door visits marked the last day of the campaigning for the Punjab assembly elections here on Friday.

Massive roadshows were taken out by N K Sharma of SAD and Deepinder Dhillon of Congress in Derabassi, Sanjeev Vashisht of BJP in Mohali and Anmol Gaggan Mann of AAP in Kharar.

In a show of strength, Balbir Singh Sidhu, the Congress candidate from Mohali, took out a roadshow from Phase XI to Phase VI, covering phases I, 3B2, V, VII, VIII, IX and X.

Riding on his development works, Sidhu is seeking his fourth straight win, saying he has a direct connection with people in the constituency. "I am not the leader of Mohali people; I am their 'sevadaar' to whom serving his people gives immense joy and happiness." "I am sure that people of Mohali will set a new record of my victory margin. This time there is a stronger wave than last time in the favour of Congress," he added.

INLD MLA from Ellenabad Abhay Singh Chautala, while campaigning in support of SAD candidate N K Sharma from Derabassi assembly constituency, said there is a fraternal harmony between people of Haryana and Punjab even today.

Abhay, while interacting with people belonging to Haryana in Peer Muchalla and Baltana areas of Zirakpur, said the SAD has always worked for strengthening brotherhood.

At the same time, Congress spokesperson Kanwar Uday Singh Rathore and sarpanch and panchayat members of Bhankharpur village joined the SAD

Dhillon, on the other hand, held SAD responsible for the martyrdom of 700 farmers from all over India, including Punjab. "The leadership of SAD drafted the anti-farmer act and because of them farmers had spent a quarter of a year with their family on the streets," he said

while addressing various programmes in Derabassi on the last day of campaigning.
