Candidate's accused attacker says he's the victim

A man whom an Adelaide Liberal candidate says was involved in an assault says he and his friend are the victims.

Jassmine Wood is the candidate for the seat of Hindmarsh in Adelaide's western suburbs.

She claims that she a volunteer were punched by two men while they campaigned at the Plympton shopping centre on Saturday.

Matt Hamon is one of the men and says he called police after the incident and that both he and his friend gave them statements.

Mr Hamon claims a man accompanying Ms Wood started the brawl.

"I had to level his hand off of my friend in an attempt to break them apart," he said.

"He's in quite a bit of pain. He's got a number of bruises both to his chest and to his arm."

Charges were laid, but later dismissed in court.
