Cancer survivor raises £85,000 for research by making 175,000 squares of Scottish tablet

A cancer survivor has raised an astounding £85,000 for breast cancer research by selling 175,000 squares of Scottish tablet.

Every morning, Fiona Edwards makes two batches, which she then goes out and sells.

Fiona, from Angus, began fundraising in 2003 after being diagnosed with breast cancer and started selling tablet to help research at Dundee University.

She raised £9500 last year and estimates she has baked 10,000 trays of tablet over the years.

She said: “I have always got a batch of tablet on the go and I keep a stock of ingredients – I’ve got 50 cans of condensed milk in my cupboard at the moment.

“Once again, I’d like to thank everyone who supports me. Their continued support means we have been able to give to breast cancer research year after year.

“The majority of the money is raised by me trekking round all youth football matches and the teams are always very supportive.”

Fiona’s exploits also help a second worthy cause as her tablet is sold through Michelle Porter at Balhungie farm shop, near
Monifeith, with part of the profits going to give 28,000 hungry kids a meal via the charity ABC Africa.

Dundee University professor of breast imaging Andrew Evans said: “We simply could not do the work we do without the money Fiona raises for us.”
