Cancellations on trains between Manchester and Tameside after 'theft of signalling cables'

Trains between Manchester and Stalybridge are being cancelled this morning after the 'theft of signalling cables'.

According to National Rail, all train lines are currently blocked between Manchester Piccadilly and Hadfield/Stalybridge. Trains will be cancelled, revised or diverted via Manchester Victoria until at least 12pm.

The cancellations are due to the theft of signalling between Gorton and Fairfield, transport bosses said. On Northern services, people travelling towards Rose Hill Marple should board a Manchester Piccadilly to Hadfield service and depart at Guide Bridge, to connect with rail replacement transport calling at all stations to Rose Hill Marple.

Customers travelling towards Manchester Piccadilly for Woodley, Hyde Central, Hyde North, Guide Bridge, Fairfield, Gorton and Ashburys should use rail replacement transport between Rose Hill Maple and Guide Bridge.

TransPennine Express ticket holders can use train tickets for the Metrolink between Manchester Victoria and Manchester Piccadilly. People are being advised to check before they travel.

In a tweet, TfGM said: "Due to the theft of signalling cables near #Gorton rail lines are currently blocked between Manc-Picc & Hadfield & Stalybridge.

"As a result, trains may be cancelled or diverted via Manc Vic. Disruption is expected until 12:00. Plan ahead & check."
