Cancellations and delays continue for troubled Glasgow to London sleeper service

The sparkling new Caledonian Sleeper, which operates between Glasgow and London has continued to struggle with delays and cancellations.

The revamped overnight service from Edinburgh, Fort William, Aberdeen, Glasgow Central and London Euston has been plagued by problems since its launch.

The first trains heading both north and south when the service set off in April were delayed in both directions, getting things off to a bad start.

Since the service has continued to struggle between Glasgow and London. Most recently, a breakdown at Acton Bridge, just south of Warrington, led to Glasgow-bound passengers being forced onto rail replacement buses and further cancellations in the coming days.

The Glasgow Central to London Euston service due to depart on Monday, June 24, was cancelled completely, while the Euston to Glasgow train on June 23 was also pulled altogether.

Back at the start of the month, on June 12, another service from Glasgow Central to Euston was also written off as a result of a breakdown at Stafford on June 11 which also led to rail replacement buses.

Passengers on the disrupted service have been frustrated at the issues, with double rooms costing £335, twin en-suits at £230 or seats on the train at £45.

The latest punctuality report, covering May 25 to June 22, has further revealed disappointing reliability between Glasgow and London for the trains that do arrival at all.

Just 66.7% of services over the period between Edinburgh, Glasgow Central and London Euston arrived on time, while 70.8% of the London Euston to Glasgow Central direct journeys arrived when expected.
