Cancellation of registration for unnecessary C-Sections

HYDERABAD

Registration of gynaecologists at private hospitals would be cancelled if they perform Caesarean deliveries without reason. Investigation would be initiated and action would be taken against the hospitals too.

This warning was issued at an orientation programme ‘To decrease C-Sections and increase normal deliveries’, organised by the Health department here on Wednesday.

The specialist doctors and medical directors of private health facilities convened at the programme. District Medical and Health Officer of Hyderabad J. Venkati spoke about the financial, physical and psychological implications of C-Sections. Senior gynaecologist Balamba P. explained various advantages of normal delivery.

Over the past few weeks, Health Minister T. Harish Rao has been stressing the need to reduce the number of C-Sections in the State. The number of such deliveries performed in the State is one of the highest across India, alarmingly more than 90% in a few districts.
